Desert Gems (watercolor)
8" x 10" Limited Edition Print of 250
pigment ink on cotton paper
Desert Gems shows a black-chinned hummingbird sipping from
a brilliant red hedgehog cactus. This cactus is abundant in the
Southwest where Linda frequently observed them during a spring
visit to New Mexico. In spring, when these cacti are in full bloom
they lure hummingbirds like magnets! An interesting bit of
information Linda provides us with is that the male hummers later
move away from their breeding areas to reserve food for the females
and young.
Linda Parkinson's beautiful watercolor and acrylic paintings
have shown and won awards throughout California. Her artwork
is in collections nationwide.
Linda's detailed paintings of local and exotic wildlife clearly
show Linda's passion and knowledge of her subjects. She has been
painting animals and portraits since childhood. Linda is an honors
graduate in animal sciences from the University of Maryland and
through her post-graduate studies in wildlife at Humboldt State
University became inspired to specialize in wildlife art.
Since then her watercolor paintings of birds and wildlife have
gained attention worldwide and are included in wildlife art
websites and magazines. Linda's work is frequently accepted by
juried shows and her work can be seen in Humboldt County galleries
such as Humboldt Artworks in Arcata and ShoreLines in Eureka.
