In 1974 Joyce moved to Arcata to study art at Humboldt State
University. She graduated with an emphasis in representational
drawing, landscape painting, and life drawing.
Joyce works primarily in watercolors. During the summer months
she paints wildflowers while on mountain hikes.
In winter, she works in her studio painting from photos of
family, plants, and landscapes. "My paintings have always
been inspired by the exquisite world we live in. The subject
matter may vary, but my response to form, contour, light and
shadow remains constant."
Joyce is an active member of the Arcata Artisans, an art
cooperative gallery in downtown Arcata. More of her work can
