Learning To Pray (oil on board)
Dharamsala, India
8.625" x 11.5" limited edition print of 60
pigment ink on cotton paper
Here we see people worshiping with the Dalai Lama in the
Tsuglagkhang, or Central Chapel, in Dharamsala. Service is
long, the atmosphere spiritual yet casual as adults and children
come and go, bow, chant, drink tea, nurse babies and so on.
The young child in the middle is learning to pray and do
prostrations (bow) from watching those around him.
In 2002 Susan made a trip to India where she met the Dalai
Lama and the Karmapa, studied Tibetan Buddhism at the Tibetan
Library of Works and Archives, and gave talks to the Montessori
teachers at the Tibetan Children’s Villages in and around
Dharamsala, India.
