Regarding "Something Between You and Me", Rob states "it speaks
to that magical, sacred third entity that is created when two people
share a profound connection. It is a fragile creature whose essence
is neither individual and yet is more than the sum of their parts.
The Third requires both parties to feed & keep it alive while having
a life of its own which is contained in and around the two participants."
Rob Hampson has been drawing and keeping a sketch book for as long
as he can recall. During High School he experimented with adding
colored pencil and watercolor washes to pen and ink drawings. While
attending Humboldt State University he studied extensively under Leslie
Price and became dedicated to watercolor as a medium within itself. Rob
also worked as an assistant to San Francisco Bay Area artist Raffaelo Dvorzak teaching
watercolor classes in Yosemite Valley and served as an assistant to
watercolorist Bob Benson for a semester at HSU.
Of his work, Rob writes "I am forever inspired by the natural
landscape around me; so I sometimes like to think of myself as a
landscape painter, but like ancient Celtic tradition, I do not wish
to duplicate what the creator is already doing. Rather than trying
to capture this splendor I hope to play with the ebb and flow of
movement, light, shadow, myth, and legend to create a space for
some sort of natural and organic beauty to dance through my work."
Rob holds two degrees from Humboldt State University, a BA in Art
(1989) and a BA in Speech Communication (1986).
