The source of these images are from my younger self, a Hasselblad
and "traditional" darkroom methods commonly practiced prior the
"digital revolution." The earlier images were created by combining
negatives while the later ones are more "straight." This creative
image making is now an easy accomplishment with Photoshop®.
Perhaps with some irony, it is important for me to note that my
current work from the Landscapes and Landmarks
galleries employ no such liberties.
For the Dry Earth work (as well as most of my photography) my
primary exploration focuses on the landscape and how it has
changed and is being changed by the human presence; suburban
and industrial development, power and water delivery systems -
future, present and past activity that will and is affecting all
of us. The landscape can not be photographed without considering
these issues. To photograph a pristine untouched landscape
remains possible although increasingly difficult. This rarity
affects meaning.
